Yukata Handmade Vintage
Yukata Handmade Vintage
This artisan Yukata features the Karabana (or Karahana) motif, a stylized floral design of ancient origin, common in Japanese textile art.
Symbolism of Karabana
The term literally means "imaginary flower". It does not represent a real botanical species, but is an artistic creation born from the fusion of several flowers considered noble, such as the peony, the lotus, and the plum blossom.
- Prosperity and Longevity: Like many motifs based on infinitely branching vines and flowers (similar to karakusa), Karabana symbolizes a flourishing life, abundance, and the continuity of the family lineage.
- Nobility and Elegance: Being composed of elements of the peony and lotus, it evokes concepts of nobility, spiritual wealth, and purity.
- Auspice of Good Fortune: Its symmetrical and repetitive forms are considered a good luck charm that wishes for positive and harmonious development in the future.
Other visible elements
The design is set within a structure of geometric medallions, similar to the Shippō pattern (the "Seven Treasures"), which in Buddhism refers to harmony and precious relationships between people. The warm earth tones (brown and rust) traditionally evoke stability and connection with nature.
