Michiyuki Vintage Yamato

Michiyuki Vintage Yamato

This Michiyuki (or traditional outer coat) is characterized by its typical squared neckline. This garment holds deep symbolism in both its external structure and internal details.

  • The Orange/Rust color evokes autumn, maturity, and the generative earth.

  • The fabric weave (Rinzu)
: Tone-on-tone pattern woven directly into the garment (jacquard damask work). This technique creates a play of light and shadow that symbolizes discreet elegance (Iki) and the changing of the seasons.
  • On the outer fabric of the coat primarily cherry blossoms (Sakura) and chrysanthemum flowers (Kiku) are woven.
    The meaning of the flowers:
They represent a poetic combination much loved in Japan.
The Sakura evokes spring, youth, and the wonderful transience of life.
The Kiku recalls autumn, nobility, and is the Japanese imperial symbol, associated with longevity and health.
Together, the two motifs ideally cover the cycle of the most important seasons and wish for a long, noble, and ever-happy life.
  •

Inside, the lining depicts various symbols, notably the wheel of an adorned carriage. This is the Gosho Guruma, the ancient ox-drawn carriage used by nobles of the imperial court during the Heian period.

Meaning: Evokes the splendor, refinement, and elegance of high lineage.

Wish: It is a symbol of prosperity, good fortune and wishes the wearer a smooth and obstacle-free life (just like the fluid movement of wheels).

Around the carriage and in the upper section are small stylized flowers:
Plum blossoms (Ume): Recognizable by their round petals. They bloom at the end of winter, defying the frost, which is why they symbolize patience, resilience, and strength of spirit in the face of difficulties.
Cherry blossoms (Sakura): Represent spring, rebirth, and invite to celebrate the fleeting beauty of life.
Overall, this decoration expresses a wish for happiness, a luxurious life, dignity, and the ability to overcome life's difficult moments with grace and elegance.
The white label shows the Japanese cursive script やまと (Yamato) with a circular logo. Kimono Yamato is one of Japan's historic and most prestigious kimono production houses, founded in 1917.
The name itself, Yamato, is the ancient poetic and official name of Japan. Wearing a garment from this house represents an indissoluble link with authentic Japanese cultural and artisanal identity.
The serial number 5211 indicates the sartorial cataloging of the unique piece or limited haute couture collection.
