Michiyuki Vintage
The pink damask fabric features a combination of three classic elements of Japanese culture:
- Maple Leaves (Momiji): They symbolize autumn, the passing of time, and the beauty of regeneration.
- Chrysanthemum Flowers (Kiku): They represent longevity, nobility, and are the symbol of the imperial family itself.
- Honeycomb Pattern (Kikko): The small geometric circles grouped together resemble the turtle's shell, an auspicious symbol of good fortune and long life.
The Lining Pattern: Matsuba and Geometric Rhombs
The jacquard weave of the white silk reveals a refined decorative pattern:
- The Geometric Rhombs: They create an elegant structure that reflects light in an iridescent way.
- Pine Needles (Matsuba): Within the rhobuses and in the background, small paired segments representing pine needles can be seen. In Japan, the pine is an evergreen tree symbolizing constancy, longevity, and resilience to adversity.
Condition and Age
- Signs of Age (Aku): Small dark/brownish blooms and halos are visible along the central seam and in the upper left corner. This is normal oxidation of vintage natural silk, typical of garments kept in chests (tansu) for a long time.
