Japanese Yukata
Japanese Yukata
100% cotton Japanese Yukata.
Meaning of Designs and Motifs
- Plum Blossoms (Ume): The flowers printed on the fabric represent resilience, perseverance, and hope. As the plum is the first tree to blossom at the end of the harsh winter, often under snow, it symbolizes the strength to overcome adversity and heralds the arrival of spring.
- Geometric Fans (Sensu): In the background, geometric patterns resembling open fans are visible. In Japanese tradition, the outward-spreading shape (called suehiro) symbolizes prosperity, growth, and a bright, expanding future.
Meaning of the Colors
- Dark Blue / Indigo (Kon / Ai): This is the quintessential traditional summer color for yukata. Historically derived from the indigo plant, it evokes a feeling of freshness, calm, and serenity. Furthermore, indigo was considered a natural insect repellent, making this color ideal for warm outdoor evenings.
- Purple and Pink of the Flowers: Purple is traditionally associated with nobility and sophistication. The pink hues of the petals evoke youth, feminine grace, and the freshness of awakening nature.
