Vintage Haori
Vintage Haori
This vintage Japanese jacket features a red plaid pattern and has a classic closure with decorative drawstrings on the front. The Hanten spread from the 18th century (Edo period), especially among classes like artisans and merchants, as there were no restrictions on its use compared to aristocratic garments.
The geometric red checkered pattern evokes an informal and rural aesthetic, recalling country life, simplicity, and the durability of materials.
The Himo drawstrings: These hand-braided laces not only serve to close the garment but also allow the jacket to remain slightly open at the front to showcase the inner lining and ensure maximum freedom of movement during daily chores or work.
Inside: Hyotan
It represents an ornamental gourd, emptied and dried. Formerly used to carry water, sake, or medicine, the gourd has a deep connection to health. It is a powerful amulet to ward off illness and invoke long life. Furthermore, due to the large number of seeds inside, it is considered a symbol of fertility and prosperity for one's descendants.
